You don’t need much more than a glass and a real bottle to enjoy the delicious taste of tequila. But sometimes, especially when it’s too hot outside, a glass of ice-cold tequila sounds pretty good. But can tequila be put in the freezer?

Can Tequila Really Freeze?
It’s true that you can freeze tequila, but it won’t get hard. To get chilling effects, though, you need temperatures that are very cold or low. This can’t be done in a normal home freezer. Tequila is hard to freeze because it has a lot of alcohol in it.
Beer and wine, two other popular distilled drinks, will freeze if kept in the freezer for too long. Since they have less alcohol and more water, this is why. Spruce Eats says that low-proof alcohol freezes because it doesn’t have enough alcohol in it.
Water freezes at 32 degrees Celsius, which is 0 degrees Fahrenheit. In light of this, I suggest lowering the alcohol limit to 15%. A solution with 30% alcohol will freeze, but it won’t get solid.
What Happens When You Put Tequila In The Freezer
Difficult To Smell
By putting powerful spirits in the freezer, you can change their taste and smell. Because it will be too cold for them to feel any warmth, you won’t be able to smell them. If you put good tequila in the fridge, it will lose its taste and turn into bad tequila.
When drinking tequila or vodka from glass bottles, you should serve it at room temperature so you can fully enjoy the smells and tastes of the spirit’s ingredients.
Increased Liquid Viscosity
There are a few good reasons to put vodka or any other alcoholic drink in the freezer. When liquids cool, they get thicker (their viscosity goes up).
The ability of gases to mix with air gets better as the temperature goes down. When tequila is heated, bubbles form in the glass or bottle, which is why this effect sometimes happens.
There is no proof that putting vodka, tequila, or gin in the freezer for a long time makes the alcohol in the bottle taste worse.
Will Freezing Tequila Affect Its Taste?
If you freeze tequila, the taste and smell might change. Tequila’s flavorings are easy to destroy by cold, so you shouldn’t freeze it. Through experimentation, it was found that chilling tequila took away some of its flavors.
Aromatic compounds found in nature that add flavor were damaged or lost their flavor. Since then, both the way it works and how long it lasts have gotten worse.
Unlike other spirits that can be kept at room temperature, tequila tastes better when it is served a little bit chilled.
If you keep your bottle of tequila somewhere cool, it will last longer. If you like your tequila on the cooler side, ice is a good substitute. But when does tequila go bad?
How Long Will It Take To Freeze Tequila?
It might take a while to freeze tequila. Most 80 proof liquors, like gin, whiskey, vodka, and tequila, will not freeze in a standard freezer. To freeze hard liquor, the temperature needs to be between -10 degrees Fahrenheit and -17 degrees Fahrenheit.
On the other hand, you can chill low-proof alcoholic drinks like beer and wine well in a regular refrigerator.
Pure ethanol alcohol needs -173 degrees Fahrenheit to freeze, while water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit and melts at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Beer and wine are more likely to freeze than other alcoholic drinks because they have less alcohol in them. White wine or a warm beer can be made drinkable by putting them in the freezer for a few minutes.
Is It Okay To Put Tequila In The Freezer?
You can put tequila in the freezer, but it’s not a good idea. Even though tequila and vodka shouldn’t be chilled, real fans never do. Tequila can’t be found at low or cold temperatures. The taste and smell of tequila might change slightly if you freeze it.
Hard alcohol like vodka doesn’t need to be cooled or frozen, regardless of whether the bottle is open or not. Beer, wine, and most liquors including Pimm’s and St. Germain are OK to consume at room temperature because of their low alcohol content.
Serve your tequila at room temperature to keep its taste, smell, and freshness. Generally, you shouldn’t keep alcohol in the fridge or freezer. Instead, you should keep it at room temperature.
Will Tequila Freeze In A Popsicle?
There might be and probably are tequila popsicles. At 32 degrees Fahrenheit, water begins to melt. Tequila has a higher freezing point than juice, so if less tequila is used in the recipe, the popsicle will still freeze. Tequila is often drunk straight up, like a fine wine.
If you want a cool shot with a little extra something, you could mix it with tequila popsicles or another alcoholic drink. You might enjoy drinking more if you tried something new. But how many tequila shots do you need to get drunk?

Tequila Lime Boozy Pops
- Ten thin slices of cucumber
- Ten slices of lime
- 1/2 cups silver tequila
- 2 ½ cups limeade
- Tijan spice to taste
When you mix lime juice and cucumber slices, you can make some cool ice pops. With wooden stir sticks, limeade and tequila should be poured into ice cube trays. Put it in the freezer the next day. Take the mold out of the freezer and use a butter knife to loosen the top. Spice up the dish with Tijan.
Tequila Sunrise Freezer Pops
- 10 stemless maraschino cherries
- Five fl. oz. Blanco or silver tequila
- 27.5 fl. oz. orange juice
- One teaspoon Nielsen-Massey Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 1/4 teaspoons Nielsen-Massey Pure Orange Extract
- 10, 3-ounce freezer pop bags
- 2 1/2 tablespoons grenadine
Mix the pineapple juice, tequila, and lime juice in a large measuring cup. Next, fill the Dixie cups 3/4 of the way and put a teaspoon of grenadine in each one.
With a paring knife, cut a slit in the middle of each lime slice so that the stick can go in. Place for four hours in the freezer.
Tequila Sunset Freezer Pops
- Stemless Maraschino Cherry
- Orange juice
Orange juice and tequila can be mixed together and put into frozen pop packs. Put it in the freezer for four to five hours after you’ve sealed it. After the bags have been frozen, fill them to the top with grenadine and add one Maraschino cherry to each. Put it back in the freezer for a few more hours.
Margarita Freeze Pops
- a half-cup of tequila
- 6 tbsp lime juice, freshly squeezed
- a quarter cup of coarse kosher salt
- Six unwrapped frozen lime-flavored ice pops or fruit bars
Blend up some limeade, lime juice, tequila, and triple sec. Use your little funnel to fill the bag of frozen pops up to the line with dots. Before serving, it’s best to put it in the fridge for at least four to six hours.
Is it bad to freeze and unfreeze tequila?
Tequila shouldn’t be frozen and thawed because it loses its flavor and quality both ways. Even though it was unfrozen, it might have had a small effect on the soul.
When you take the chill off your tequila and open the bottle, you might find a few ice crystals floating around. Due to evaporation and air contact, a bottle of tequila gets worse as it ages.
At what temperature does tequila freeze?
Frozen tequila may be safely stored between -100 and -170 degrees Fahrenheit. As we’ve already said, to freeze liquor, it needs to be between -100 and -117 degrees Fahrenheit. Deep industrial freezers can get down to about -50 degrees Fahrenheit, but a typical home freezer only goes down to about 0.
Does freezing tequila make it stronger?
Putting tequila in the fridge won’t make it stronger. There isn’t any scientific evidence that chilling tequila makes it stronger.
Wine and beer could freeze, but it could happen. When beer and wine freeze, the amount of alcohol in them may go up a lot.
In short, tequila will freeze, but it won’t get completely solid. Tequila is an ethanol-heavy drink made from the agave plant.
It has an alcohol level of 80. So, it needs to be kept at a temperature between -10 and -17 degrees Fahrenheit. Hard liquors don’t freeze like lighter alcohols do when it’s cold. Since it only has 15% alcohol, freeze it.
It’s not a good idea to chill alcoholic drinks. It’s fine to put ice in your drink if you want it to be chilly. To keep their taste and strength, liquors should be kept in the fridge or a cold cabinet.
