How to Freeze Doughnuts
It’s easy to freeze food. Time and heat don’t hurt your doughnuts as much as air does. Before putting the seal on the package, it’s important to get rid of as much air as possible. But we don’t want to mess up the glaze, which is tasty but easily broken.
Step 1: Gather your materials
To start, choose the largest freezer bag you have (usually one or two gallons). Cut two pieces of wax paper that are just smaller than the bag. (Getting the paper in and out of the bag is a lot easier this way.)
Step 2: Bag ’em up
Inside the bag should be one square of waxed paper. The doughnuts should then be placed on top of the waxed paper in the bag in a single layer.
On top of the doughnuts, place the second sheet of waxed paper. Get as much air out of the bag as you can and close it almost all the way, leaving about a quarter of an inch open.
Step 3: Suck out the air
Follow these steps to keep doughnuts from going stale! Unzip the top of the bag and put a straw inside (like these reusable ones). Slowly take all of the air out of the bag using the straw.
As the bag gets smaller, the waxed paper covering the doughnuts will be pulled tight around them. After the bag has been sealed, put it flat in the freezer.
Can You Freeze Homemade Doughnuts?
Absolutely! Before doughnuts are frozen, they should be empty and glazed. This can be done after they have been cooked and cooled to room temperature.
You can freeze the rest of the doughnuts in the same way after you’ve served the ones you plan to serve from a freshly baked batch.
If you want to fill your doughnuts with buttercream, you should first wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and then put it in a freezer bag.

Krispy Kreme’s glazed doughnuts come with instructions on how to warm them up: Put the doughnuts in the microwave for 8 seconds exactly.
How to Thaw Doughnuts
The best way to warm up doughnuts is to put them in the microwave for 10 seconds at 50% power. Doughnuts vary in size and weight, so if they aren’t hot enough, cook them for seven seconds at a time on 50% power. But if you cook your doughnuts too long, you’ll get dry, unpleasant circles.
After the doughnuts have thawed, they should be glazed if they were frozen without glaze. Keep in mind that you can’t microwave the doughnuts for too long because the glaze needs to harden when the doughnuts are at room temperature. Our favorite glaze for donuts takes less than five minutes to make.
